  Aria da Capo
An aria da capo is a three-part musical composition in which the final section is an exact repetition of the first section. Poet Edna St. Vincent Millay has translated this form to the stage to explore what happens when comedy distracts from tragedy both real and imagined.

I updated Millay's commedia dell'arte scene to a 1950s sitcom setting, adding period music and a laugh track to emphasize the banality of the lovers' scene in contrast to the tragedy of the scene to which they temporarily yield the stage. The off-night run as part of a festival meant making the most of another show's set (in this case, The Hunchback of Notre Dame) and making do with limited technical support.
